Austrian HotCity Project Uses Blockchain to Gamify Energy-Oriented Neighborhood Planning
Coinspeaker: The Austrian government is funding a project in Vienna that’s using blockchain as a means of ensuring that neighborhood planning becomes more oriented towards sustainable energy use. Called “HotCity,” the project will launch its proof of concept on the Ardor public blockchain in October. The partners in the project include Jelurida, which powers the Ardor blockchain, along with Picapipe GmbH. HotCity has received a grant worth over €300,000 ($325,000) from the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation, and Technology.

Austrian Government-Backed Project Will Use Blockchain to Find Waste Heat Spots
Cointelegraph: The Austrian government is backing a project that would let citizens submit data about industrial waste heat spots for district heating, receiving tokens as reward. An Austrian project is set to use blockchain to help find waste heat hotspots in the cities of Vienna and Graz. Announced by the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) on May 12, HotCity’s proof-of-concept involves creating a gamification system to crowdsource hotspots around the city and channel them to provide public heating. The platform will use the Ignis blockchain, part of the Ardor ecosystem developed by Swiss company Jelurida.

Yaffe explains, “Existing blockchain-based business solutions face issues such as lack of token incentivization or regulation. Therefore, I expect a hybrid multi-chain model where a parent, public permissionless chain serves as a decentralization layer for multiple child chains which in turn can be permissioned for a specific application domain.”
