The Evolution of Proof of Stake – From Peercoin and NXT to Algorand
Bitcoinist: Clever as King and Nadal’s idea was, it was only partially implemented in Peercoin, which still relied on Proof of Work in tandem with PoS. It was not until the launch of Nxt in 2013 that PoS was fully tested in the wild. Developed by software company Jelurida, Nxt was the first pure Proof of Stake blockchain, and the template for subsequent PoS networks to copy. An open source blockchain written in Java, Nxt serves today as a payment network and dApp- launching hub, complete with private chains for business applications.

How governments are responding to the public's demand for more data transparency
Big Think: The Austrian government has recently turned to blockchain as a means of establishing transparent communications about the COVID-19 crisis, between authorities, institutions, and citizens. Communication specialist A-Trust has launched the QualiSig project, on Ignis, part of the Ardor blockchain platform. The project will use transparent, encrypted communications visible on the blockchain, and decentralized data storage to secure data against attacks. Citizens can control the use of their own data using qualified digital signatures. Alexander Pfeiffer, Danube University Krems researcher, and partner to A-Trust, has a high degree of confidence that blockchain can help to increase trust in governments.

Austria to Put Ardor Blockchain-Based Comms in Citizens' Hands
Cryptonews: A child chain called Ignis by software company Jelurida will be a part of a new project - QualiSig - that has for a goal secure, blockchain-based communication between Austrian authorities, the country's institutions and citizens in the times of the pandemic. Data control will be the responsibility of citizens. Jelurida develops and maintains the Ardor and Nxt blockchains. The Ardor blockchain is a decentralized proof-of-stake blockchain that introduced the architecture of child-chains. This means that Ardor is the parent chain, which serves as the security and consensus layer, while there are child-chains like Ignis rely on Ardor but enable additional features, the company's co-founder and Director, Lior Yaffe, told Cryptonews.com.

The Austrian government has backed a new blockchain-based research project, aiming to provide secure communication channels between authorities, institutions and citizens in times of crisis. As announced June 18, the QualiSig project, launched by Austrian comms specialist A-Trust, will utilize the Ignis child chain, part of the Ardor blockchain from Swiss company Jelurida.

Austrian government makes blockchain award for COVID-19 solutions

Ardor Blockchain Project Receives Slice of $26M Government Grant for Tackling Covid-19
ZyCrypto: Jelurida, the software development company that maintains the Ardor and Nxt blockchains, will support A-Trust with building out its solution in a consultancy capacity. Ignis, a child chain of Ardor, will be used to develop a market-ready prototype, with blockchain used to store encrypted data. A-Trust’s solution has a number of applications in tackling Covid-19 including verifying the identity of testers attending households to check for cases of infection. Citizens will be able to use A-Trust’s signature verification technology to establish the tester’s credentials by scanning a barcode that has been signed by the testing agency, verifying that it has not been tampered with in any way.
